Nigerian singer Rybeena has urged singles not to allow the fear of marital challenges to discourage them from getting married, noting that both marriage and singlehood can come with their own regrets.
The singer made the remarks while speaking on the Wahala Podcast, where he encouraged people to take a chance on marriage rather than remain single out of fear of making the wrong decision.
According to Rybeena, neither choosing marriage nor staying single guarantees a regret-free life, making it important for people to accept the risks that come with either choice.
“If you marry, you regret. If you don’t marry, you still regret. Choose one of the regrets and take the risk,” he said.
He also challenged the idea that marriage should be defined by constant romance and happiness, explaining that disagreements and arguments are natural parts of living with a partner who may have a different upbringing, personality and perspective.
“Marriage is not always like loving, loving. It’s about disagreeing and arguing,” Rybeena said.
The singer, however, stressed that disagreements do not necessarily mean a marriage is failing, saying the ability of couples to understand each other and manage their differences is more important.
He noted that successful marriages require partners to understand each other’s boundaries, recognise their differences and make adjustments where necessary.
“What matters is the way we combat, the way we understand each other, and we know our dos and don’ts,” he added.
